I was reluctant to try this game when it came out, since I had seen the trailers for the film and it looked like a bad movie.

I know lots of people like to excuse awful movies with “They’re for kids! I believe you can make smart movies that kids can enjoy, and Pixar constantly proves me right. I got to borrow the console version from a friend and enjoyed it inmensely, so I got the PC version, which is the same. A ridiculously fun third-person game with a surprising amount of variety and interesting objectives. Usually games based on films are quite bad, but not only this is a good one, but it surpasses the quality of several games not based on movies.

And of course, it surpasses infinitely the quality of the film is based on. It’s still based on the same premise, but it makes the story and characters interesting instead of dumb. The basics are these: you play most of the game as a secret agent hamster. You’re armed with a jetpack, an awesome electric whip and several different guns none of which are present in the film, by the way.

Your size makes the usually generic halls and offices become a new world on their own. You also can play as a small bug, which is needed for you to be able to reach certain parts. The bug has abilities of his own, such as flying, slowing down time and, of course, being able to fit in places so small not even a hamster can.

There are also a couple of driving sections. The game’s graphics are not extremely realistic, but they’re fit for kids. There’s no brutal violence, since you only battle robotic enemies, and no foul language of any kind, so the game is quite fit for all ages.

The game is fairly long too, so it’s not one of those 2-hour campaign games. This is what all games based on films should be. Fun, interesting and improving on the source material. Honestly, if more movie games were made like this, perhaps there wouldn’t be such a negative association with them. It’s one of those games you’ll pick up and groan – but then find yourself striving to finish it.

Very rarely can we say that! The game doesn’t have the storytelling or mechanical prowess of franchises like Uncharted. It’s definitely safe to say that G Force will not be winning any game of the year awards. It should be proud of itself for not following the traditions of poor, rushed film game pairings. That notion makes G Force recommendable, alone.
